Hello, welcome to a brief video update for DBArtisan. There’s been a new release, version 17.1 of DBArtisan, and also DB PowerStudio.

DBArtisan and PowerStudio
There’s more information on the website, the Idera.com site, you can drill down here into DB PowerStudio, and then there’s individual pages for the products or components of DB PowerStudio. DBArtisan is a DBA tool that allows a DBA to manage multiple platforms from a single UI proactively, manage space, data and performance issues, find and fix issues and performance related problems, and then day to day schema and data management and user and permissions. So there’s a wizard interface here for connecting to the different databases you’re responsible for. I’ve added a folder called PowerStudio, version 17.1, but here’s the wizard interface to step you through connecting very easily to the different database platforms supported by DBArtisan and PowerStudio.

Managing Data Sources
You have different drill down menus and pages. Here’s a Data Source Navigator showing an overview of different environments I’m connected to. You have different Explorer views that you can set up and drill down. Here in SQL Server is an overview. Here’s MySQL Overview Explorer page. Here’s Oracle. Depending on what platform you’re connected to, the menus are dynamic. Here under utilities drill down in Oracle. I see schema extraction, migration data unload and other utilities. If I’m in SQL Server, some of those menus vary and so on and so forth. You can drill down through the navigation tree. The DBArtisan performance areas for DBAs are very valuable. The DBArtisan performance drill downs are a special area in the navigation tree here for the different platforms that DBArtisan started in. Right. Oracle DB, two Sybase, SQL Server. You’re responsible for multiple platforms, DBArtisan can be very valuable and save a lot of time and give you expertise that you may not have from the native vendor tools.

So navigating the tree, you can drill. There’s right click Actions. I could right click on objects and there’s all kinds of embedded features, and then I could drill down into or double click into objects. You have definition tabs or DDL view data tabs. So, very easy to use drill down features that you might expect and then accessing your data or scripting. Very easy to manage and save time and give you back time in your day using DBArtisan.

Data Management Tools
And then, as I mentioned, DBArtisan is licensed in a bundle. There have been updates to the DB Optimizer product and the Change Manager product as well. If you use those tools in the PowerStudio bundle, the DB Optimizer allows you to drill into SQL, look at execution plans, capture transactions, load test against your environments, and then tune or optimize SQL statements and generate rewrites or alternatives for poor performing SQL and index recommendations. Change Manager has specific utilities for database comparisons, schema comparisons and data comparisons.

These have all been updated in version 17.1. This is just a brief overview introducing what we’ll add to our resource center and look for other videos to help you make more use of these products that really are very proven over time and have very mature technology that saves DBA’s effort and gives them back time in their day.
