Design New Databases. Part 4: Manage Change
In the development environments of today, it is of critical importance to ensure that one aligned data models and databases to the user stories and tasks being created. Data architects must collaborate with database administrators and designers, and track data model changes and correlate them against development and database updates.
As requirements change, we can understand those changes and deploy them to the same database. This process occurs starting from the logical model and continues through. ER/Studio contains tools to connect to change management tools like Jira and create named releases. As the logical model changes, one can update the physical model using the compare and merge tool. Likewise, as the physical model changes, one can compare it with a live database to generate ALTER scripts to change the database schema.
